The City Council defines a sustainable Dar es Salaam as being a place which is prepared for sustainable current and future population growth. Our first priority is to the provide the homes, infrastructure and employment the growing population needs. This will allow the prevention of unsafe, unhealthy and environmentally damaging peripheral slum development, which traps people in long term urban poverty and uncertainty. Preventing coastal erosion and flooding is also a second major priority, alongside providing better access to green space, sewerage and waste facilities and clean water. Alongside many cities, we also wish to reduce our carbon emissions and clean our air, to reduce our global impact and improve local health further.
